Have you tried air fryer chicken wings? These are a family favorite, and previously I thought there were only a few options to create delicious keto chicken wings. I’ve learned more about new ways to create delicious chicken wings as an appetizer or meal option for dinner with the family. Today I’m featuring one of my favorites – low carb lemon pepper air fryer chicken wings!
How many wings can you cook in an air fryer?
The number of wings you can cook in an air fryer (I love the size of my Cuisinart air fryer toaster oven) will depend on how large your air fryer and chicken wings are. The key to success with this air fryer lemon pepper wings recipe is to lay them out in a single layer with some space between the wings. Don’t double layer, and remember that an air fryer cooks your wings with hot air, so every part of your chicken wings needs to have access to the air fryers hot air to cook properly.
You’ll want to pat the chicken wings dry before placing them in a single layer in your air fryer. This recipe calls for 2 lbs of chicken wings, so you may have to run this recipe in a couple of batches if you have a smaller air fryer at home. Either way, just be sure the chicken wings have been patted dry before placing them in a single layer in your air fryer to make your lemon pepper wings.
What is lemon pepper seasoning made of?
My lemon pepper seasoning consists of black pepper and finely zested and juiced lemons. This tasty combination gives you a sweet flavor rather than a bitter, sour taste for your air fryer chicken wings.
Can I put aluminum foil in air fryer?
If this is your first time using an air fryer, then you may be wondering if you can place aluminum foil down prior to placing your lemon pepper wings in your air fryer basket. While you can put aluminum foil in an air fryer, it’s not recommended. Remember that your air fryer cooks the chicken wings by using hot air. This hot air needs access to all spots of your chicken wings which means putting aluminum foil down will deter the cooking process.
The air fryer truly makes it easier to enjoy some of your favorite fried food options without the added bad-for-you ingredients. I love using my air fryer any chance I can, as it provides me with a fabulous way to serve up my family and friends something tasty, without the added junk. You’ll be surprised at how tasty these air fryer lemon pepper wings are.

Air Fryer Lemon Pepper Wings
Ingredients
- 3 lemons, finely zested and juiced
- 1 teaspoon salt, optional (only needed if NOT marinating the wings)
- 1 ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ cup olive oil
- 2 pounds chicken wing sections
Instructions
- Place chicken wings in a freezer bag and add the lemon juice. Seal tightly and place in a large bowl (to protect from leaks.) Refrigerate overnight, turning the bag when you think
about it. - To prepare the seasoning, combine the lemon zest, salt (if needed), black pepper, onion
powder, and garlic powder. Set aside if using soon or place in an airtight container and
store in the refrigerator overnight. - When ready to cook, preheat the air fryer to 380 degrees.
- Remove the chicken from the bag and pat the chicken dry using paper towels.
- Brush the chicken with olive oil and rub with lemon pepper seasoning.
- Prepare the air fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray. Place the chicken wings in the
air fryer basket leaving space between for air circulation. - Cook the chicken wings for 20 to 30 minutes (depending on the size of the wings and the
wattage of the air fryer) turning once.
Notes
How many wings does this make? Depends on the size of your wings and how meaty they are. Always double check your nutritional values if you are trying to stick to your macros.
