This was a moment frozen in time.
Well frozen by a film camera who’s date feature was not set properly and is showing a date two years before the girl in the photo was born.
Y’all don’t know how lucky you are to have your babies in the digital age…
But I digress…
This was a day at the lake…
And this was also the moment before the geese in the photo decided that they were slightly jealous of the attention the ducks in the water were receiving from the cute kids and decided to fly OVER their heads (those kids are mine as you might have figured out), land in the water with an overly theatrical splash, send the ducks into a flurry of flapping wings, thus terrifying Caroline and Derek and sending them running back toward the car.
I should have known better.
I grew up around geese and know they have a penchant for the dramatic.
That play day ended early – and the rest of the day we recounted the story of our self-created mass hysteria, exaggerated tales of terror and danger, all ending with silly laughter at the obvious as we drove away to the safety of our home.
Our happily gooseless home.
Oh and those two? They are 20 and 22 today. Our idea of playing outside is sitting in a cafe drinking tea and chatting about life. Hold onto those play days. They are precious.

“In celebration of the 8th annual WWDOP, GoGo squeeZ wants everyone to get outside and enjoy some GoGo Time—simply good, active fun—next Saturday, September 24. GoGo squeeZ is committed to providing kids with opportunities to live an active life, and has made this possible with the creation of the GoGo Gang, a nationwide brigade of parents and kids that are dedicated to getting a daily dose of GoGo Time. When the GoGo Gang is 100,000 members strong, GoGo squeeZ will team up for Action for Healthy Kids to renovate a play space in an under-served community, making it easy and fun for children in the area to get their GoGo Time. When membership reaches 250,000, GoGo squeeZ will build playgrounds in two more communities.”
