It’s been almost 2 months since I fell and sprained my MCL. I literally lost the summer. Lost. Gone. Poof. I spent most of the time in bed, barely making it into another room for the first month. After I gained my balance and began venturing to other rooms and eventually the car and work, I realized that I’m still not up to big crowds. I have to watch sharp turns and sudden stops.
So there was no way I was going shopping in a grocery store. It may be weeks before I’m up to that.
If it weren’t for Amazon Prime Now, I would have probably eaten Papa Johns or Jimmy Johns for every meal. Also are Papa and Jimmy related? I digress.
Pros – you pick a window of time and can track the delivery on your phone app. Once they arrive, they bring the bags to your door. Even on crutches, I knew exactly when they would arrive and could get to the door on time and have the bags placed inside. Cold items are packaged separately so I could leave the rest in their bags waiting for one of the kids to help put the food away. And yes, they have fruits and veggies, so it’s not all processed foods.
Cons – you are tied to those windows, so you do need to plan ahead at least somewhat. Order too late at night and your first delivery window may be the next morning. Assortments vary and your frequently ordered items may not be available the next time you want to order. Fresh items are limited – not a lot of variety. You want bananas? Expect 4-7 in your batch. There is a $20 minimum, so you may have to add on a few extras – but that just helps justify the convenience fee.
The app is free to download, delivery is free, and a $5 tip is included – totally worth it for someone who can’t get out of the house. And you can leave more if you feel generous.
This saved our sanity and our summer. We’ll be using it often!
