I think most of you know my past 2 years have been extra busy and consumed by a little guy named Beck. I’m snuggling him right now as he sits with me sharing a stomach flu. Yes, Beck has already got this sharing thing down.

Grannying is hard work, but totally gratifying. It’s my second time around with a baby, so I should be a pro, right?

Truth be told, it’s harder than I realized. I knew as an “old lady” that there would be challenges. I don’t handle being up at night well. I don’t bounce up and down stairs like I used to. I need almost as many naps as he does.

But I don’t have to do much of anything. He’s got the most amazing mom, Maggie, who takes care of it all.

I don’t know how she does it. She takes care of Beck as a single mom, works at his daycare, and is finishing her last year of college. I know there are days she’s had it and just wants someone to take over for her. I try to be there for those times. But through it all she does it, with or without me, with a smile. A few tears here and there, but fortunately B has a knack for turning those frowns upside down.

She’s a natural mom. She has an instinct about him and what he needs. He’s had a rough little babyhood between ear tubes and allergy / GI issues.  I watch her tackle every new battle like it’s her job – well because it is. When people try to armchair quarterback “oh it’s teething, he’s just fussy, happens all the time”, she sticks with her instincts and is right every time.

He is what he is because of her. No one else can take credit for that.

Do you have someone in your life who is a source of strength? This post is sponsored by Extra Strength TYLENOL®  and they are currently running a campaign at http://www.TylenolStoriesOfStrength.com.   Extra Strength TYLENOL® is partnering with actress Andie McDowell (St. Elmo’s Fire anyone?) and her daughter, actress and singer Rainey Qualley, to launch STORIES OF STRENGTH, a program encouraging people to share stories honoring someone who has been a source of strength in their lives. Andie had the opportunity to learn how her strength inspires her daughter, Rainey, to be strong for her up and coming career in music and is excited to share her personal story, as well.

So who inspires you? Head on over to  submit your own story of strength” on the TYLENOL® “Stories of Strength” Facebook tab at http://www.TylenolStoriesOfStrength.com. Each story shared will support DoSomething.org ,an organization that activates young people to be strong leaders for social change. Participants will also have a chance to win a weekly prize from TYLENOL® to take the strength passed on to them to do something that is important to them.

So why not honor someone you love? I’d love to read your stories!
