Here are 25 steps to becoming a better blogger.

It’s a lot of work but taking a few easy steps to improve your blog and blogging habits will lead to a better blog.  I wanted to give you 31, one for each day in October, but I could only think of 25.  Hopefully you can fill in the others for me!

  1. Buy your own URL
  2. Post frequently – 3 or more times a week
  3. Comment on other blogs
  4. Proof read your posts before publishing
  5. Learn about and use keywords for SEO
  6. Self host your blog on a platform like WordPress.org
  7. Build out a content calendar
  8. Add social buttons to your site
  9. Link to others when relevant and give credit when due
  10. Invest in a good design
  11. Write posts that people will want to read
  12. Write about stuff you want to write about
  13. Reply to comments on your blog
  14. Remove old and useless banners out of your sidebar PLEASE
  15. Make sure contact information is easy to find
  16. Use fonts that people can read
  17. Watch colored texts – only use where appropriate and have it match your theme
  18. Name your images and add alt text for SEO
  19. Use full width images in your posts
  20. Watch placement of ads – make sure they aren’t too distracting
  21. No autoplay music unless you are Ann Voscamp 
  22. Share your own posts on your social networks to build community
  23. Only post content you have the rights to
  24. Set business objectives for your blog
  25. Track metrics to identify gaps or changes

    I literally lol when I read about not using auto play music unless you are Ann Voskamp. The music on her blog is beautiful!
