To my little darling.  I wanted to write a note to you at this point in your young life to let you know just how special you are even before being born – and how much your Granny loves you.  This note is also establishing that I intend to be named Granny, but you can call me any name you think of or make up and I will treasure and probably make all my friends call me that too.  You already have that power over me.  And my heart has melted 100 million times over.

I don’t yet know if you are a boy or a girl but I already have a picture of you in my head.  It involves a bald head and tiny fingers and toes and eyes that smile when they see me.  You glance my way and that melting thing starts all over again.  And don’t worry – if you are born with a head of hair I’ll still recognize you, I promise.

I’ll know you right away and love you like no other.  I’m filled with joy imagining the moment I first hold you in my arms.  Good luck getting you out of said arms.  Don’t tell your Mom yet, but she’s going to have a fight on her hands for who gets to snuggle  you the most.

Now about your Mom.  She’s one of the most loving people I know.  That’s how I know you’ll be in good hands.  She’s a big dreamer and I know right now she’s dreaming of  you and all the wonder and joy you’ll bring into our lives.  You are the luckiest baby in the world and I know she will be your best friend and most ardent protector.  Your Mom is also one of the bravest people I know and I’m amazed at her love, generosity and beauty.  She is a gift to me and will be the constant in your life.

Well one of them.  Now back to me.  I’m here to make sure you never forget how precious you are.  I’m here to spoil you even when your Mom says not to.  I’m here and that’s about all you need to know.  Granny is here.  Whatever you need in life, I will move mountains to make it happen.   You have a wonderfully committed family – the best Aunt Caroline and Uncle Derek in the world.   Expect to do fun crafts and play video games all day when you visit them.  And there are friends and family and a whole big internet of fabulous people who can’t wait to meet you.

We love you so much.

Aunt Janine here chiming in to say I will be wrestling Granny to hold you!!!

And, I bet I’m better at changing diapers than her. After having twins, I learned to change two diapers without taking off onsies!

Can’t wait to meet you and bring you to your first blog conference. I get to finally wear one of those baby wraps!!! (Sorry Marge, but I called it first).
