I’m becoming obsessed with all the changes that have taken place in the baby gear category.  When mine were young you had so few options.  Instead of a baby store you had a baby aisle.  You had two types of bottles to choose from and you let your baby chew on whatever type of plastic the toy was made of.   Green meant just that.  Green.

That was the 90’s.  Your baby had a bumper on the bed and the rail moved up and down.   I’m not sure babywearing was a word in the dictionary yet.  When my first was born she was supposed to sleep on her stomach.  By the third she needed to sleep on her back.  All my kids slept which ever way they would sleep.  I was thankful they just did.

So now we are shopping, 20 years later.  What’s changed?  The question would be more easily answered WHAT HAS NOT.  It’s all different but so cool in so many ways.  And many of the products had me asking “why didn’t I think of that?”.

Take baby bottles.

With new shapes and materials I really don’t even recognize bottles any more. The Organikidz line of stainless steel bottles offer many advantages over traditional plastic bottles – durability, easy cleaning, eco-friendly, hygiene. It’s used widely in hospitals – so it’s a natural fit.

The Kid Kanteen Baby Bottle is made from 18/8 food-grade stainless steel and comes in a contoured hourglass bottle designed for little hands and a wide-mouth bottle for easy filling, pouring and cleaning.  Stainless will not break down and become weak or brittle with heating, making it perfect for the dishwasher.  Look at the shape – love it!  Makes it easy for chubby little baby hands to grab.

Teething takes new shape these days as well.  The Molar Muncher may look like a binky, but closer look reveals a soft,BPA-free U-shaped tab, a perfect fit for teething gums.  It’s a single piece of construction and refrigerator (NOT FREEZER) safe.   It’s shaped to soothe the gums but not cause a choking hazard.

If it works for bottles, why not teething toys? Kleynimals are a teething toy made of stainless steel, dishwasher safe and non-toxic.  Designed with cute animal shapes, they are cool to the baby’s gums.

I have so much to learn and I’m learning something every day.  If you have products that I should check out – products that have changed since my kids were children – let me know!  It’s exciting to learn about all the new products out there and see how much times have progressed since my babies were babies.

My youngest will turn 12 this year and I cannot believe all the cool stuff that is in stores for babies these days, it makes me kind of envious of the new moms I tell you! Those metal bottles are so cool!

it’s funny. I think about how much it’s changed in 9 years… It must be crazy how it’s changed since the 90s!
