I am a friend of Heather Solos’ and a blog fan for so long.  She’s smart and witty and since I lack some serious skills in the homemaking area, she is a must read for me.  I won’t blame my mother, but when the joke at home growing up was “hope she doesn’t go to someone’s house for dinner and ask to see a menu”, you get the idea of how much we were in the kitchen….

Then came Marg.  My super sassy daughter is also Suzy Homemaker.  Thank God for the children especially the ones who cook and clean.

Oh and my oldest, Caroline, AHEM bakes and sews.

I know!  I have no idea where they got the skills.  I’m just thankful every day.

So when Heather’s book Home Ec 101 came out I immediately bought 2 copies. For the girls.  Heather has been a source of inspiration and a wealth of knowledge in the past and knowing that all her tips and tricks were in one book, I knew it would be the definitive home resource guide my girls would keep next to the Betty Crocker cookbook and Farmer’s Almanac. I don’t exaggerate the Awesome.

I’ve been on the receiving end of great advice from Heather.  Like cookware.  I had no idea how to buy it, but knew that she would have the answer.   I  (well Marg) wanted something that would cook evenly but didn’t cost an arm and a leg.

See ? It helps to have friends who are smart.   Especially when you have kids that are smart and can benefit from that.  Heather is not only brilliant but she’s the real deal, and I’m excited to have my girls read her book.  I have even glanced over a couple of chapters too.  OK, I read the whole thing, but don’t tell the kiddos.  They might expect me to start knowing what all this housekeeping stuff is!

You can find it at Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, and if you are like me it’s hiding on your Nook… need the kids to continue to think I’m totally clueless!

I am so glad Heather was able to tame the angry Marg. And since Heather won’t move in with me, I am more then willing to take either of your Home-Ec 101 wielding girls off your hands. Maybe they could teach me a thing or two.
