Start with a simple photo in Photoshop. An object with a fairly plain back ground works well. In this example I actually cropped out the image and put it on a transparent background (which shows up here as white).

The steps are fairly basic.

Start with your image.

Create a white background. I used the shape tool and covered the image, then switched the order of the layers so the white image was the base.

In the palette click on the top layer and duplicate that layer. Layer>Duplicate Layer

Now click on the top layer (layer 1 copy in this case) and hit Image>Adjustments>Desaturate

Now duplicate the desaturated layer .

On the copy 2 hit Images>Adjustments>Invert

Next hit color dodge on the palette

Now the cool part.

Fliter>Blur>Guassian Blur

Set the Blur Radius to between 1.4 and 1.7

and TA DA!

Print and color!  Maybe you can even color that smirk off her face!

Pretty cool. Wouldn’t it be great to make a coloring book of your daughter at different ages and write a little caption underneath and give it to her children one day in a folder/binder with a cover that reads WHEN YOUR MOMMY WAS A GIRL coloring book.
